Krurumo Health Centre
Project Coordinator:
John Alaiser
Project Overview:
Krurumo Health Centre (Mto Wa Mbu, TANZANIA) is a part of Salien Lutheran Hospital in TANZANIA. Krurumo Health Centre provides health services to people in the rural town of Mto Wa Mbu and the surrounding villages. Some of its services include Voluntary Testing and Counseling (VCT) for HIV/AIDS. The HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to be catastrophic throughout Tanzania where 7% of the population is HIV positive. Medical services are being overwhelmed with HIV/AIDS related illnesses. Among the interventions carried out by the Selian Lutheran hospital AIDS Control Programme(ACP) to reduce the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is Voluntary counselling and testing(VCT). The rural community is even much more deprived of this important service and especially areas with scattered populations like Mto Wa Mbu.
Goals for 2010:
• To increase the number of people reached with quality VCT services at the Kirurumo Health Centre from 1632 to 3264 annually.
• To scale up mobile VCT services to reach the rural communities.
IPM Funding Goal for 2010:
$2,000
