Project Coordinator:
Heidi Pdicoke

Project Overview:

Watoto wa Lwanga (Nairobi, KENYA) is a non- profit children’s organization created in 1991 by the Brothers of St. Charles Lwanga, a Catholic community initiated in Uganda, whose calling is to offer support and education to children in marginalized communities. Through establishing schools and rehabilitating street children, Watoto wa Lwanga has transformed the lives of thousands of children in Nairobi’s many slums.

Goals for 2010:

• To increase awareness of the plight of street children and other children in difficult circumstances.

• To re-integrate children with their families when possible.

• To offer basic necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, medical care and both formal and non-formal education to street children and other vulnerable children.

 • To place street children in relevant institutions when appropriate for the welfare of the child and to oversee their well-being and progress.

• To set up an educational center for poor children.

• To improve the income generating capacity in target communities.

• To empower the local community through workshops increasing awareness on issues such as HIV/AIDS and children’s rights.

IPM Funding Goal for 2010:
$2,000
